Alabama Head Softball Coach
From a humble start to a national championship, Murphy has taken Alabama to the top of the college softball world. Beginning with his days as an assistant in the very first years of the Alabama softball program, Murphy has emerged as the face of a team that has grown under his leadership to become one of the most consistently successful programs in the nation. Murphy has turned his program into an absolute model of consistency, having guided Alabama to its first national title, 21 consecutive NCAA tournaments, and appearances in 12 Women’s College World Series. Since the Super Regional round was introduced to the NCAA Tournament in 2005, Alabama is the only team in the country to appear in all 15 series, winning 10 of them. It is Murphy’s desire for perfection that has guided the Tide to the upper echelon of the softball world. His hard-nosed work ethic has led the program to as high as No. 1 in the national rankings, reached for the first time in program history during the 2007 season.
University of Tennessee Head Women’s Basketball Coach
In 18 complete years as a Division I head coach, Harper has led her teams to a 348-235 record and 14 postseason appearances (7 NCAA/7 WNIT) through the 2021-22 campaign. She has piloted her squads to 14 top-three league finishes and four conference tourney titles along the way, and in 2021-22 she guided Tennessee to the NCAA Sweet 16, equaling her run with Missouri State in 2018-19 before she was hired by her alma mater.
Harper is 63-27 overall and 30-15 vs. SEC competition during a quick makeover on Rocky Top, ranking third in winning percentage in league games behind only South Carolina’s Dawn Staley and LSU’s Kim Mulkey. Harper and Staley are the only SEC coaches to guide their teams to top-three SEC finishes in each of the past three seasons, and UT and USC were the only league squads to advance into the NCAA Round of 16 in 2022.
Harper is married to Jon Harper, an assistant coach on her staffs at Western Carolina, NC State, Missouri State and now Tennessee. The Harpers welcomed their first child, son Jackson, in November 2013, and had a daughter, Kiley, in June 2018.
